Oh, hi again. It’s been a while, cuz I took a several-year break from spare-time writing to:
- focus on a terrible job,
- have a series of breakdowns as quietly as possible,
- take a months-long staycation on my Animal Crossing island, and then,
- manage an interstate relocation during a global pandemic.
But it’s 2022; I’ve mostly unpacked, the things that needed immediate attention have been repaired, and for a change of pace, I’d love to think about things that aren’t real.
Can I tell you a story?
I’m working on some serial fiction projects. One is a “live” CYOA that started as a branching Twine text game but I’ve decided to simplify it into a WordPress site. By the end of the first telling of Velvet Season, the polls on the pages will be replaced with links allowing readers to find out what might’ve been had the Moon favored other wishes. In this experiment, I know the plot. The reader polling serves only to decide which branches and character perspectives are revealed first. (At least for the first arc.)
The second project, Birthday Girls, starts later this spring and will use a different reader-interaction mechanism to challenge me to complete a story that’s been in drafts for over a decade. Can I keep the story going?
If you’d like to participate in either or both interactive serials, you can subscribe to my newsletter for updates or follow me on Twitter.
